Setup steps

To deploy the Industrial Edge Management Virtual, follow these steps. Each step is crucial for a successful setup and ensures the system operates efficiently within your industrial environment.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the Industrial Edge Hub: Before beginning the deployment process, ensure you have the necessary access rights to the Industrial Edge Hub. This access is essential for downloading the required software components.

  • Virtualization Environment: One of the following virtualization environments is required to deploy the IEM Virtual:

    • VMware Workstation Version 16 or later
    • VMware ESXi Server Version 7.0 or later
  • Hardware Requirements

    • RAM (Memory) - 16 GB
    • Hard Disk Size - 300 GB
    • Number of CPUs - 4
    • Network Interface Card - 1 (Only recommended single NIC)

Note These resource requirements are predefined in the OVA package. The user can increase these values to support a larger number of devices.
Decreasing these values may cause the IEM application to become broken or unusable.

1. Download the OVA Package

  • Navigate to the Industrial Edge Hub and download the OVA (Open Virtualization Format Archive) package.
  • The OVA package contains the IEM Virtual appliance, which is a pre-configured virtual machine image designed to simplify the setup process.

2. Deploy the Virtual Machine

  • Import the OVA package directly into VMware Workstation or ESXi Server to create a new virtual machine.

    • VMware Workstation: Suitable for development environments or small-scale deployments.
    • VMware ESXi Server: Recommended for production environments due to its scalability and robustness.
  • Choosing the right virtualization platform is critical for performance and reliability. VMware Workstation offers ease of use for testing or limited use cases, whereas VMware ESXi provides a more robust infrastructure for larger deployments.

3. Provision the IEM Virtual Instance

  • Proceed with the initial configuration and provision the instance via the easy to use Webinterface
