Connecting an Edge Device - Overview

In order to establish the relation between the Industrial Edge Device and the Industrial Edge Management, the onboarding process is required. It will enable a signed and encrypted connection between the two components. This is then used to manage the device centrally.

The workflow of onboarding an Industrial Edge Device starts at the Industrial Management UI where a configuration file will be created. This needs to be uploaded to the Industrial Edge Device in the second step.

Requirements for adding an Edge Device

  • The Edge Device is switched on.
  • The Edge Device is connected to a local network.
  • The Edge Device in the local network is able to connect to:
  • IEM: https://<fqdn>
  • IEM Cloud: https://<fqdn>
  • IEM ISO: https://<fqdn>:9443 and https://<fqdn>:9444
  • Recommended: The Edge Device ca use a provided DNS server for name resolution.
  • Recommended: The Edge Device can use a provided NTP server for time synchronization.
